Francis Henson is a singer-songwriter, multi-instrumentalist, and producer based in Vancouver, British Columbia, Canada. He holds a Bachelor of Music in Jazz Studies (Performance/Composition) from Capilano University. He has been performing as a solo artist and in small jazz ensembles in venues across Vancouver since 2013.
Born and raised in the Philippines, Henson and his family moved to Canada in 2010. His experience as a first-generation immigrant finds a musical home in Boy Pacific, particularly the track “New Kid” which opens with the following: “Your first steps, on cold land / Your footsteps on snow and not sand.” Questions of home and belonging reverberate throughout the album, its name a reflection of Henson's self-understanding. Boy Pacific is both literal and figurative; it is a metaphor for where he’s been and where he’s going, his past and his future.
Henson's latest album, Boy Pacific explores many fundamental coming-of-age questions around identity, home, love, and belonging. The twelve song album represents Henson’s most mature release to date. Henson says, “There are songs here for everyone—it’s music to enjoy as part of the backdrop of life.” Boy Pacific invites you to wipe your tears and make your way to the dance floor.
